Today is election day at Corinthian Lodge #67. I have written this article in anticipation of my election to the Senior Warden's chair. A little presumptuous, I admit, but my Lodge follows the old adage, "As Tradition Prevails." It is very curious in Masonic elections how there is rarely a fight among successors to a chair. For those not in the know, officers usually follow a line whereby the brother in the Junior Warden's chair advances to the Senior Warden and the Senior moves to the Master's chair.
After coming out of an extremely contentious political season, it is almost reassuring that officers are placed in a line without much change. It is a calming sense that life may change rapidly but there is still comfort in life moving one chair at a time (except in my case where I bounced one chair over, from Senior Steward to Junior Warden, ahhhh!!!).
So, if you are reading this post, then I have been elected Senior Warden for year 2009 and will be extremely excited to serve with Bro. Paul Hardt (soon to be Worshipful Brother Hardt), who will be installed as the new Worshipful Master of the Lodge and Brother Steve Bernhardt as Junior Warden. We will have our open installation on Sunday, November 23 at 4 pm. I also would like to congratulate the other brothers that have been elected or appointed and I hope we have a fun and eventful year.

We were voted in as a slate, or one of us (me) might not have made it.
Now, to be a little more serious for a moment: I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly. There was a very diverse group of guys there, and it is indeed comforting to see the continuity and order in our lodge.
We are fortunate to have the young go-getters, like you, Nick, but we are also very richly stocked with the wisdom of our elders. As I looked around the room, I was struck with how many years some of those guys have been attending, active members.
I am truly humbled by the chance to serve, but quite pleased to be working with you and WM Paul. We have a lot of work to do, and I think it will be a blast!
Senior Steward to Junior Warden? I count three steps there, Nick. Junior Deacon, Senior Deacon, Junior Warden. Unless you mean chair literally, as in the thing that you sit on.

It is strange to have never moved from the same side from the start. I was on the sideline on that side, then moved to Steward and then JW. I finally will get a change. You get to come to the fun non-lonely side again, I kind of envy you right now.

I jumped over Junior Deacon last year to be Senior Deacon (just to fill a hole in the line, really). This year I'm JW, next year, SW, and then (DV) the East.
I intend to be Junior Deacon the year after I am IPM.
I enjoy the ritual, and being in the line. But sometimes I struggle with the memory work. I really needed to go through the line one chair at a time, and there are a couple that I would like to go back to, just like Chris.
So, in the interests of full disclosure, MillFreem, I need to explain to your readers that you are one of those gifted guys who has the memory work down cold. Never uses a cypher, seldom makes the slightest stumble in the work.
It makes some of us old guys feel kinda, well, jealous!
But, as much as I would like to resent Nick for his skills, he really is what he seems to be - a friend, a truly good and decent man, and a great Mason.
And his secret is that he really works hard to memorize those lines!
